ANC: Passage Master 12/15/06

December 15, 2006

Passage Master:

Through the pages I read this week there were many important events. I can point out tons of important events but I stuck to my favorite two. My first event is when Carl Ray gets money from an unknown person. This part is on page 86-96 (Friday July 6). I think this is an important event of the book because now everything is going to change. Carl Ray can maybe start paying for things for himself, like a car, house, and food. If he bought a house he could stop relying on the Finney family for doing things for him like making dinner for him. This is a turning point of Carl Rays life. My second important event is when Alex Cheevey tells Mary Lou Finney he likes her a lot. This part is on pages 97-106. I think this is an important part of the book because now Mary Lou Finney knows how Beth Ann feels. After Alex Cheevey told Mary Lou Finney he liked her, Mary Lou liked to remember the amazing moments with him in her head. She did not want to talk to people about her and Alex because she wanted to just remember the special and amazing moments in her head. Mary Lou Finney now knows why Beth Ann would not tell her the sordid details about her and her boyfriend. Mary Lou Finney understands Beth Ann now.

ANC: Monday Questions 12/11/06

December 11, 2006

1. Describe Beth Ann’s new behavior. How does Mary Lou feel about it?

Beth Ann’s new behavior was odd and unusual because she did not act the way she use to. Before Beth Ann’s date she always told Mary Lou Finney every detail about things. After her date, Mary Lou Finney came to her house. Mary Lou Finney thought she would be hearing every detail about Beth Ann’s date, like what color people wore. When Mary Lou got their Beth Ann didn’t really say much. She did not say much about her date either. Mary Lou felt annoyed about Beth Ann’s new behavior.

2. How does Mary Lou react when Mr. Furtz dies?

Mary Lou reaction to Mr. Furtz death is she was surprised. Mary Lou describes Mr. Furtz as a skinny and healthy-looking man. Mary Lou said Mr.Furtz plays golf and tennis. This surprised Mary Lou that he died because he is in great health.

ANC: Critical Thinker 12/8/06

December 8, 2006

Critical Thinker:

  1. Describe what happen to Mr.Furtz and why did this surprised Mary Lou Finney?

Mr.Furtz had a heart attack while he was at the hospital and died. This surprised Mary Lou Finney because Mr.Furtz was always shinny and in good fit. He was a healthy-looking person.

  1. Tell in your own words how Mary Lou Finney felt about hearing Alex Cheevey asked about her?

When Mary Lou Finney heard that Alex Cheevey asked about she felt surprised. She would never think that Alex Cheevey would like her or even thought about her.

  1. Contrast the difference’s of the Finney family and Carl Ray.

The Finney family is not lazy, they do chores to keep their house organized and clean. Plus, the parents have a job, they do not sit all day around the house watching T.V. Carl Ray is very lazy. He sleeps to one o’clock in the afternoon. When he is not sleeping he is watching T.V or eating food. He also does not speak clearly and make it hard for the Finney family to understand him.

  1. Why is the Finney family getting annoyed with Carl Ray?

The Finney family getting annoyed with Carl Ray because of his laziness. He sleeps to one o’clock in the afternoon and when he is not sleeping he is watching T.V or eating. He eats a ton of food. He does not speak clearly and the Finney family has a hard time to figure out if he got a job or not. To top it all off, he does not even try to find a job for himself so he could start making some money.

  1. What would it be like if Carl Ray was not so lazy?

If Carl Ray was not so lazy life for the Finney family would be easier. They would not have to do so many chores, they would not have to make so much food, they would not have to figure out what Carl Ray says, and they would not have to keep asking him if he got a job. Carl Ray probably would have gotten a job and probably would be moved out.

  1. What do you think is most likely going to happen at the hardware store after the manger (Mr.Furtz) died?

I think that Carl Ray is going to stop being lazy and become the manger of the hardware store since the real manger died. I think this is going to be a chance for Carl Ray start to get down in business with his life. Carl Ray could start making some money to afford a place for him to stay.

ANC: Connector 12/1/06

December 1, 2006

My role this week was the connector. The connector connects events in the the book to real life. Many events happen in the pages I read. I got three connects from these pages. The first connects was that the family’s life is very crazy. Their life is crazy by they have many children in their family and they have a small house. It is crazy and busy at their house all the time, even at dinner time it is hard to have a conversation. This can connect to real life by our lives are very crazy by activities such as sports, events, after school clubs, and work. The second  is when the family gets a letter from their cousin saying he will be staying with them until he gets a job and gets settled. This can connect to our life by family members take care of other family members. Even though sometimes we get angry about people coming over to stay at our house we still give them respect and help them out. My third connect is when the main character, Mary Lou Finney has to write a journal over the summer. This can connect to real life by sometimes teacher assign paragraphs or journals to kids that normally would not do it.

Paul was content to be the backup goalie because he got to be apart of the Tagerine Middle School soccer team. At Lake Windsor Middle School Paul got kicked of the soccer team because he had a IEP. Paul was very happy when he heard he could go to Tagerine Middle School. When Paul went to the soccer game for Victor Paul scored a goal. This was very amazing because Paul position in soccer is the goalie.  Maya did not need Mrs.Fisher’s encouragement because she knew that she was good at playing soccer. She is the top scorer in the country. She could make the All-Country team for sure. She does not need encouragement.

Tangerine by Edward Bloor

September 22, 2006

If I was making Tangerine into a movie for background music I would use jazz music. I would use jazz music because most of the settings are very quit. Jazz reminds me of quit and smooth sounds. An example I would use jazz music in is in the setting when Paul and his Mother and unpacking in the guest room. In that setting I think jazz music would be the best music for the background.
